In addition to flying and social events, squadron members regularly participate in adventurous training activities. MASUAS has a distinguished tradition of off-shore sailing, with recent trips having been undertaken to the Channel Islands, France and even as far as the Caribbean! The opportunity to gain official qualifications - such as day skipper and competent crew - is also available. Regular squadron activities include the annual skiing trip to Val d'Isere, and a leadership weekend in the Lake district. Expeditions are often organized and several trips abroad have seen squadron members in the Alps and on Ascension Island. Other courses are available to squadron members at minimum expense, these are run by the armed services and include activities such as mountaineering, parachuting and diving.
